Best Board Game Blogs of the Week, ft. Adventures in High Finance!

A mid-week recap of the best blog posts from Oct. 22nd through Oct. 28th.

The post-Essen period continues to be quiet on the Blogwatch. Everyone must still be busy playing all the games they brought home…

(This is an excerpted version of the original post. For the entire article, go to my blog at Board Game Geek.)

AT THE TOP OF THE CHARTS…

HIGH ADVENTURES IN HIGH FINANCE—ACQUIRE RETROSPECTIVE
San Il Defanso @ The Rumpus Room, 10/27

Think of this as “Part One” of a series on this landmark game. This a great introduction for gamers who were born decades after this game was first published, 5 decades ago this year.

Playing Acquire is a little like meeting a fifty-year-old man who can outrun a bunch of twenty-somethings. Rather than showing its age, Sid Sackson’s classic feels as relevant today as ever. It’s a true evergreen title, one that has seen numerous publishers but has remained essentially unchanged since 1964.

For “Part Two,” check out Joe Huber’s post on the development of Acquire (How Acquire Became Acquire), based on the inventor’s own diaries and design notes.

3 MORE MUST-READS…

RETAILING’S DIRTY LITTLE SECRET
Scott Thorne @ Rolling for Initiative, 10/27

HOW TO GET YOUR WIFE/GF/S.O./CAT TO GAME WITH YOU
Leandra Lange @ Happy Mitten Games, 10/27

“OH, SHOOT! I JUST REALIZED…”
GeekInsight @ Giant Fire Breathing Robot, 10/23

The above four blogs earn consideration for the BGA Blog of the Year Award. One point is awarded for inclusion, with an extra point given to the Post of the Week.
