One of our all time favorite segments is back with “If you like, try…” This month we’re looking at one of our favorite games of all time (which made the top 10 in our recent Top 100 list) – Terra Mystica. Anthony, Chris, Daniel, and Drew each pick three games that match one of their favorite parts of the game as recommendations for games you might like if you also like Terra Mystica.

    Acquisition Disorder Corner

After several months, we have a massive backlog of games we want to talk about in our acquisition disorder corner. Anthony kicks things off with a brutal but mesmerizing play of Food Chain Magnate, Chris talks about Star Trek: Ascendancy, Drew ponders the difficulty quotient of a Dark Souls board game and Daniel organizes one of his game in a much needed storage solution upgrade.

    At the Table

Equally long this month is our list of recently played games. Anthony kicks things off talking about Council of Four, the newest game from the designers of Tzol’kin: The Mayan Calendar and The Voyages of Marco Polo. Chris talks about What’s Your Game? release Signorie, Daniel plays Karuba, and Drew discusses modern elimination games with six players: King of Tokyo and Cash n’ Guns.

Feature: If You Like Terra Mystica, Try…

As one of the best games of all time, and a persistent enigma to heavy euro gamers around the world, Terra Mystica is a modern classic. But sometimes you want to mix things up a bit and bring something new to the table. That’s why we’ve added it to our “if you like” series, with 12 games you might also like if you dig this one. We talk about:

    • Strategic Planning – Anthony picks three games that include power-specific strategy planning.
    • Territory Building on a Map – Chris choose three games where the map matters in the segmentation of territories.
    • Network Building – Drew looks at three games with similar network building but at a lighter weight.
    • Symbiotic Competitive Games – Daniel looks at three games where players benefit from similar actions, growing together even while competing.

Listen to learn which 12 games you might want to consider if Terra Mystica is a favorite at your table.
