Episode 13 – Amerigo & Top 10 Traitor Mechanic games

This week finds us playing a game we didn’t even know was on the horizon, but are happy to have had a chance to play – Amerigo. Anthony, Chris, Dan and Kim sit down and take a swing at the newest from Stefan Feld and Queen Games, as well as our full Top 10 list of Traitor Mechanic Games. Join us to discuss the types of games we feel really capture that “Ha!” moment in gaming.

Top 10 Traitor Mechanic Games

There are few mechanics as engaging and hard to pull off as the traitor mechanic. The sudden reversal of fortunes. The unexpected shift in allegiances and the complete upending of the game’s flow make these some of the most unique (and hard to play) games on the market.

Join us this week as we gather a list of the top 10 such games and talk werewolves, cylons, and vampires. Learn which games manage to find the right balance between gameplay and surprise and how to find the right group for such a game without it turning into an all out (real world) fight.

Feature Review: Amerigo

Our feature review this week is Amerigo from Stefan Feld. This oversized euro features a number of familiar and rarely implemented mechanics, including the cube tower (!) that we were absolutely smitten with. Listen to the crew discuss how this game plays, whether it really captures the feel and flow of a true Feld, and whether it’s worth tracking down a copy for your own play through.

Recommendations for Starting a Game Group

Trying to start a gaming group? Here are some recommendations for how to get people together, find games that make as many people as possible happy, and ensure people keep coming back week after week for more gaming.
