Anthony has found a new favorite game and some of the table isn’t as impressed. Join us this week as we review Spyrium, a lightweight, low cost worker placement game that does a lot of things right but leaves some question marks at the table.
Chris, Dan and Kim will also be talking about Shadow Hunters, the go to game for groups of 7 in our game group, Werewolf Inquisition, the black hole obsession that is Mage Wars, and San Juan – one of the most elegant card games around.
At the Table
This week, we were busy! Having played a good number of games starting with Shadow Hunters, we have a lot we’ll be discussing, including the relative merits of a game like Shadow Hunters despite it’s heavy player elimination mechanic.
Werewolf Inquisition joins the fray as another elimination heavy game and we’ll talk about our first encounter with Mage Wars, a game that has been growing in popularity around the store of late. Finally, we touch on San Juan, an unfortunately out of print classic that captures the perfect blend of strategy and simplicity.
Feature Review: Spyrium
This week’s feature review is the sublime little worker placement game, Spyrium. Admittedly light with its theme and components, this game packs a lot of punch for a sub-$40 purchase. Join us to discuss the intricacies of its alley-like worker placement mechanic and whether it lives up to the litany of other recent worker placement releases.
Bottom line, is this one worth a buy or should you hold out and play it when you next see it at the table before investing in it? It’s an interesting case of a game that’s buzz is dying fast – is that deserved?
