Episode 60 – If You Like Ticket to Ride, Try…

Fresh off our recent trip to Dreamation, we’re back with a run through of some of the games we got to the table, a super sized Final Round feature, and the second installment in our new ongoing feature: If You Like, Try…, this week focusing on Ticket to Ride and games that scratch the same itch for map based, set-collection, travel-oriented strategy (say that three times fast). We also get a handful of new games to the table, including Baseball Highlights 2045, Flea Marketeers, and Courtier.

Shout it from the Tabletop

Lots of interesting news on the docket this week, including additional recap of our time at Dreamation 2015, and a run through of the recently announced Board Game Geek, Golden Geek awards. Drew also brings a handful of interesting and insightful stories and articles about the hobby to the table for the group to discuss.

Acquisition Disorder Corner

Daniel’s acquisition disorder goes off the rails this week looking at the D&D White Box (a reprint of the original TSR D&D launch), Anthony wishes he had purchased more of the Mystery Rummy games during the Baseball Highlights Kickstarter, and Chris backs Trickerion on Kickstarter, a gorgeous looking new worker placement game about early 20th century illusionists.

At the Table

We played a LOT of games at Dreamation, so we’ll be talking about them for some time, but this week we focus on three games that were particularly engaging, including Baseball Highlights: 2045, which Anthony picked up off of Kickstarter last year, Flea Marketeers, which Chris had a chance to play with a group of folks we met at the convention, and Courtier, one of Phillip duBarry’s first games and the first entry in the Tempest universe from AEG. Listen to what we think of all three and if they are worth a play.

If You Like Ticket to Ride, Try…

Our first run through the “If you like” format for Catan was a big success so we’re bringing it back as a recurring feature, this time looking at Ticket to Ride. Learn about 9 games you may be interested in if you are a fan of Ticket to Ride or any of the specific mechanics or theme related to that game. From travel and map games to set collection to network building, we run through what games will scratch similar itches in slightly more complex packages in this week’s feature.

Final Round: Super Size Convention Games

Finally, for our final round, we look at games we WISH we could play as super sized convention variants. Much like the super-sized King of Tokyo that floats around the country for conventions or the oversized replicas of other recent launches like Rampage, these are four games we’d love to see in this format.
