Episode 79 – BGA Court: To Sleeve or Not to Sleeve…

On this week’s episode, Anthony and Chris tackle one of the great questions of gaming – whether to upgrade and bling out a board game beyond what comes in the base game or leave it alone. We’ll discuss token upgrades, metal coins, sleeving, box inserts and storage solutions, and the ever-more popular special edition releases for games that have been out for some time. Drew joins us to Shout it from the Tabletop as well and we talk about our favorite restaurant games.

Shout it from the Tabletop

Drew joins us to discuss a handful of interesting stories in the board game industry:

Acquisition Disorder Corner

This week, Anthony takes a look at a game he already bought (on pure impulse!), The Voyages of Marco Polo, and Chris dives into an awesome looking Kickstarter campaign for Cardboard Clothing – custom t-shirts for board gamers. Check it out here and listen to Chris’s rundown of some of the great shirts they have as part of the campaign.

At the Table

This week Anthony takes a look at a recent play through of Notre Dame, a game that Dave was kind enough to bring with and teach at Dexcon this year. Chris also talks about a recent play through of Deep Sea Adventure, available only on the Board Game Geek store.

Feature: BGA Court – To Sleeve or Not to Sleeve

This is a question that has come up more than a handful of times for the guys, not only as part of the BGA team, but when playing with other gamers or in local game groups. Should you spend the time and money to bling out a game with upgraded components, paint, and extra pieces and storage options, or do games deserve to be played as they were originally intended?

Chris and Anthony get down to the core of the issue and discuss whether this highly popular practice is a plus or negative for hobby gamers.

Final Round: Restaurant Week

In honor of New York’s Restaurant Week (and other cities throughout the US that have tasting and restaurant events), we look at three of our favorite restuarant style or focused games.
