Question of the Week for August 1, 2022

We’re a little past the middle of the year, but in the board-game-o-sphere, we’re just getting started. Most of the biggest titles of the year will release in the next three months, so it’s a good time to slow down, take stock, and reflect on the games we enjoyed most over the first seven months.

Our question of the week this week is: What’s your game of the year (so far!) for 2022?

Now, a couple of caveats with this question. Some people answered what game they enjoyed playing the most in 2022. Fair answer, and it’s always fun to hear what people are getting to the table, but since those answers don’t directly match up with the spirit of the question, we didn’t cover all of them on the podcast.

Another thing to consider. A lot of awards are based on when a game is originally released. The Dice Tower for example, just gave its game of the year award for 2021 to Ark Nova. They can get copies from Germany right away. Most of us cannot, so we consider Ark Nova, which released in North America in February of this year a 2022 release. This will matter more when we get to the end of the year awards and reference a bunch of 2021 Essen releases that just hit the states (Gutenberg, Golem, Ark Nova, etc.).

Alright, enough of the logistics. Let’s get down to it. What games are people having the most fun with that released in 2022?

Let’s take a look at some of the answers from our listeners and readers:
