Question of the Week for July 26, 2022

Every week, we ask the listeners and readers of BGA to answer our question of the week. Posted to Facebook and Twitter, the question of the week is an opportunity to reflect on the theoretical, hobby-based arguments we all have with each other during game night.

This week, the question is, Have you ever discovered you’re playing a game incorrectly and decided you prefer it over the correct rules?

Simply put, we wanted to know if anyone out there had made a mistake when learning a game, later realized their mistake and played by the proper rules, and promptly went back to the incorrect rules. Board gaming is full of examples of incorrect play, house rules, and general adjustments to match the will of the players. Monopoly’s bevy of house rules and misreadings are among the most famous, but it’s not alone.
