Episode 61 – Tabletop Madness 2015 Round 3
For nearly two years, we’ve been talking about board games on Board Gamers Anonymous, and for me it’s one of the highlights of my week. Sitting down with three of my closest friends to talk about the games we’ve played and the hobby as a whole is a blast, but this week’s episode was by far one of my favorites ever. Borrowing liberally from a certain college basketball tournament, we sat down this week to pit 68 of the best games we’ve ever played according to BGG rank against each other in a tournament style bracket. You can read how…
Tabletop Madness 2015 – Rounds 1-2
This is one of my favorite times of year. The weather is nicer, baseball spring training is underway, and the NCAA college basketball tournament is about to start. In the spirit of our 2014 World Cup event, BGA wanted to commemorate the event with an obligatory bracket pitting the best of the best board games against each other in the ultimate VS. feature. This is Tabletop Madness and for the next three weeks we will be working our way through the full bracket of 68 board games chosen by us and our listeners to square off in the BGA board…
Episode 60 – If You Like Ticket to Ride, Try…
Fresh off our recent trip to Dreamation, we’re back with a run through of some of the games we got to the table, a super sized Final Round feature, and the second installment in our new ongoing feature: If You Like, Try…, this week focusing on Ticket to Ride and games that scratch the same itch for map based, set-collection, travel-oriented strategy (say that three times fast). We also get a handful of new games to the table, including Baseball Highlights 2045, Flea Marketeers, and Courtier. Shout it from the Tabletop Lots of interesting news on the docket this week,…
Audio Review: Super Fantasy Rumble
The first convention we ever attended was Pax East 2014. It was only a few months after starting the podcast and we were excited to go to something local where we might run across unpublished or soon to be published board games, much like Super Fantasy Rumble. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to play Super Fantasy Rumble at the convention – Luis and Miguel Lugo were sharing it with the crowd but it was almost always booked up when we walked by. Thankfully, a few months later, I got an email from them saying the game was ready and they forwarded us…
Between Two Cities Review
The below is a written review for Between Two Cities, the new Kickstarter project from Stonemaier Games. You can listen to our audio review on Episode 59 of the podcast here. Jamey at Stonemaier Games was awesome enough to send us an advance copy of Between Two Cities a few weeks ago. As a backer of two of their previous Kickstarter campaigns and an admirer of the sheer quality of components and execution in everything they’ve produced to date, I was excited to get this one to the table, and for good reason, because what this game does is impressive. Between…
Episode 59 – Between Two Cities
This was a very special week for us. Not only were we able to come together for the first time in nearly three months at Dreamation 2015 in Morristown, NJ, but we had the opportunity to play a number of fantastic new games, including our feature review for this week’s episode, Between Two Cities. Below you’ll find Anthony’s written review as well as a link to the full podcast episode in which we discuss the game. This week we also discuss the ridiculous grabs we made at the convention auction and some of the other games we got to the…
