One of my favorite things about solo games is that they can cleanse the mental palate. At the end of a long day, between beefier games or rulebook reading, or just when the kids get a bit too crazy, I turn to a solo game in my collection to shake out the cobwebs and relax.

Every game has its place. There are the Sunday afternoon games that take an hour or two, the end of the day games that take under an hour, and the quick fix games that I can knock out in 10 minutes. But rare is the game that is compelling and relaxing at the same time – simple to play, with no setup time, and accessible components.

That’s why I found with Shahrazad. We recently received copies of the newest release from Osprey Games and from a solo gamer’s perspective this one is a perfect fit for me. Designed by Yuo, whose elegant card game challenges have started to trickle west, Shahrazad provides a whole new coat of paint, with chunky tile components, and a beautiful box.

You can watch my full review of this game below or go direct to the walkthrough below that to get a sense of how it looks and feels on the table. For solo gamers, low-stress co-op players, or just lovers of good artwork and simple mechanics, it’s worth checking out:
