Geek Pride Day, Westchester County, NY – May 25.
Augmented World Expo, Santa Clara, CA – May 27-29.

Lots of alternative gaming this week, if you happen to be bi-coastal.

    geek pride

Saturday, May 25th, will see hundreds of Geeks from the Northeast gather for Geek Pride Day in Croton Point Park, Westchester County, New York. It’s a typical celebration of Cosplay, Cthulu and Cube Races (as in Rubrik’s).

But among the festivities is an intriguing food event called “Settlers of Tacan,” described as “Settlers of Catan transformed into a game where you get to eat your resources and really feel like king of an island…of food!” From what I can tell, players bring food ingredients and trade them in order to make Tacos. Participate at your own risk.

    smartglass

On the serious side of the country, you can preview a prototype of the “Thermal Touch” interface at the Augmented World Expo.  This new smartglass is intended to turn any surface into a touchable screen that senses your body heat. With Thermal Touch, designers claim, users could play ‘virtual board games.’

Starting, no doubt, with simple Chess. But could you manipulate all the pieces of Agricola on it? Check out Metaio’s display at the Santa Clara (CA) Convention Center, next Tuesday through Thursday.
