This week, we’re extremely excited to welcome Jamey Stegmaier as our Fifth Host. This week, we’re taking a look at Scythe and some of our favorite games and types of games that use similar mechanics. In addition to Scythe, Anthony, Chris, Daniel, and Jamey discuss games we’ve gotten to the table lately, our upcoming acquisition disorders, and a ton of Drew’s news from the tabletop.

    Shout it from the Tabletop

This week Drew shares a few of the most interesting stories from recent posts to Twitter. They include:

    • Museum of Play is a must see attraction in upstate New York
    • Guardian.com is bidding to replace Board Game Geek as the website of record for the hobby
    • Popular Mechanics lists the 10 best Board Game Apps, even “Galaxy Trucker”!
    • Geek.com’s 11 massive crowdfunding disasters: Glory to Rome Deluxe, Doom/Atlantic City on the list
    • New Yorker has a profile of Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIn and game geek extraordinaire

    Acquisition Disorder

This week the guys have four hot new games they’re interested in picking up including one that Anthony missed during its initial Kickstarter, The Gallerist from Eagle Gryphon Games. Chris is interested in The Prodigals Club, and Daniel is all aboard the Tiny Epic train with Tiny Epic Galaxies. Jamey tells us a bit about why he’s interested in checking out Pandemic Legacy as well.

    At the Table

Again, more Tiny Epic goodness this week as Daniel reviews Tiny Epic Kingdoms. Anthony gets his newest Kickstarter acquisition to the table with the two player Resistor_, Jamey tells us about his recent plays of Funemployed, and Chris discusses Conquest of Planet Earth: Apocalypse.

Feature: If You Like ____, Try Scythe

In a very special twist on our feature this week, Chris, Anthony and Daniel discuss some of their favorite games mechanics and games from those genres and Jamey shares some of how Scythe is able to integrate those things and how it will compare to their favorites. Learn more about our favorite asymmetrical powers, deterministic combat, and engine building games and how they compare to Scythe.

    Final Round

Finally, this week Drew asks us what gaming phrases we’d like to see added to the dictionary. Each of the guys shares one of their favorite gamer terms and why it needs to be part of the general dictionary.
