I don’t have much time to blog nowadays and one of the reasons is that I spend an awful lot of time reading everyone else’s blogs. In fact, I’m quite the Power Lurker. I subscribe to 160+ blogs, forums and mailing lists right now, so there’s an awful lot to process. A year ago I used to make a list of the best blog posts of each week, but that ended up being a lot of work. Instead, I’ll just cut out the middleman by pointing you to the best blogs I’ve been reading and encourage you to check them…

I’ve been struggling with what to call my new series of ‘funnies’, which I’ve been posting to the @BGAPodcast twitter feed daily Mon-Fri. They’re not Memes, and they’re not Cartoons. I stopped trying to name what they are and switched to thinking about what they feel like… They’re fun, which is why I called them ‘funnies’, like the old newspaper comic strips. But they’re also about games, so the title has to reflect that. I did an idiom search on the ‘net and came up with phrase that was so obvious, I had a ‘Duh…’ moment. I decided to call…

This week we welcome back an old friend – one of our first non-review segments, VERSUS – and in what seems like a pretty straightforward comparison, we look at Suburbia and The Castles of Mad King Ludwig. Join Anthony, Chris, and Daniel as we dig deep into both games though and have a rather contentious vote on which game is better and worth your table time. We’re also talking about a boat load of Munchkin expansions, T.I.M.E. Stories and a whole lot of very pricey acquisition disorders (mostly from this wild fall of Kickstarters). Shout it from the Tabletop New…

One of the hottest trends in gaming right now is Legacy – the idea that a game can tell a true story that grows and evolves with time and plays. Join Anthony, Chris, and Daniel to discuss three games they’d like to see Legacyed and what that would look like. We’re also talking about recent play throughs of Isle of Skye,…

On Episode 92, we delved into some of the board games that were best improved by their expansions. There were a lot of them. The board game industry is booming and for better or worse, some games hit the store shelves in a not-quite perfect state. I’m just grateful the designers and publishers are willing to admit it and roll out fixes to make the games better. Preparing for that episode got me thinking though – what board game expansions are just legitimately awesome, regardless of how they improved (or did not improve) the original game. What expansions add so…

Acquisition Disorder Corner This week in our acquisition disorder corner, Anthony talks about a new two player gamer from Pittsburgh designer, Brent Povis, currently on Kickstarter called Agility. Focusing on dog agility contests, it’s…

I wrote a list of the best two player board games a long time ago and while it’s a useful reference point, not all two player games are a good fit for special time with your significant other. When you have a few hours alone together – especially if you have children and these hours are rare – the last thing you want to do is tear each other apart in Terrinoth or reenact the Cold War. Or maybe you do, in which case this list won’t be for you. Rather this list is for gamers and their boyfriends, girlfriends,…
