Episode 118: Top 10 Board Game Apps

This year has been a banner year already for board game apps. Some of the best apps currently available for tablets or phones have hit in the last 6 months, and more are on the way as companies like Asmodee start investing big time in digital versions of their top games. It’s only going to continue, so we wanted to sit down and take a look at the top 10 board games apps currently available on the app store, whether new or a bit older and possibly overlooked.

Before diving into the top apps, Anthony shares his acquisition disorder pick for this week with Too Many Bones. He and Jason interviewed the designers last week on Every Night is Game Night #35, so be sure to check that out as well. Chris dives into The Arrival, a new Martin Wallace game hitting soon from Crytopzoic (!), and an interesting twist on the usual Wallace formula.

At the table this week, Anthony and Chris both got a chance to play Shahrazad, the new 1-2 player co-op tile laying game from Osprey Games. Anthony shares his thoughts and we both review the game – as a solo or two player experience. Chris shares his thoughts on Yokohama as well, recently released in the US from Tasty Minstrel Games, including in a deluxified version that ramps up the production quality on all components.

Finally, we share our top 10 board game apps, including several recent releases that have knocked it out of the park and some classics that don’t get as much buzz as they used to, but should absolutely be on the top of any list when loading up a tablet with new apps for convention lines.

Don’t forget to connect with us on Facebook, Twitter (@bgapodcast) and on our BoardGameGeek guild. And if you have a spare minute, please leave us a quick review on iTunes. We’d love to hear your feedback, and every review helps us to reach more people and grow this awesome hobby!
