Episode 32 – Russian Railroads

The guys are all together again this week, including some remote dial in, to discuss a number of games we were able to get to the table recently. The list keeps growing so we’re going to jam as many as we can into this week’s episode for discussion, including our feature review of the extremely satisfying new worker placement game (and point bonanza), Russian Railroads, along with recent play throughs of Steam Park, Flashpoint, Guild Hall, and Concept.

At the Table

We have a full table this week with four games we were able to pull out and play together or remotely. The first of these is Guild Hall from AEG, a game we’ve been eager to try for some time. Learn what we think and whether the dryness of the theme is overcome by the variability of the gameplay.

Second up is the new party game and Spiel des Jahrs nominee, Concept. Is it worth the accolades and which groups are best for it? Next up is Steam Park, a game with cute cardboard cutouts of the rides in the theme park and a bit of game to go with, and finally Flashpoint Fire Rescue, a game we’ve discussed before, but really can’t get enough of.

Feature Review: Russian Railroads

Our feature review is Russian Railroads. Anthony picked this one up recently at a nice discount and was able to get it to the table a number of times in recent weeks. We’re going to discuss the merits of the game, how it plays compared to other worker placement games, if the point-scoring mechanisms are good or a little too over the top, and how it will pan out long term as players attempt to “solve” it. Learn what we think and whether it’s a play, dodge, or buy on this week’s feature review.
