Episode 39 – Tokaido vs. Takenoko

On this week’s episode, we’re talking about some of the most relaxing games in the hobby – when it comes to competitive gaming, this batch is at the top for laid back, family-friendly fun…and we’re going to pit them against each other. Anthony, Chris, Daniel, and Drew are all together for Tokaide vs. Takenoko. We’re also discussing some other relatively relaxing games in Fairy Tale, Times Square and Imperial Settlers (with trucks!)

At the Table Solo Play

Anthony has been playing a lot of games with his son lately and that means one of two things – Busytown or solo gaming. This time around, he’s talking about Imperial Settlers and its sublime single player variant, plus some much need mods to include trucks and long-distance hauling.

At the Table

Also at the table this week are games played by Chris and Drew – Fairy Tale and Times Square. Both games are precursors to a number of modern classics and still hold up well compared to their more modern brethren. Listen to find out if these are worth picking up or tracking down. Combined with this week’s acquisition disorder list, there are a lot of plays at the table, which means far too many options!

Feature: Tokaido VS. Takenoko

In our newest VS. feature we’ve pitted two of the most relaxing Antoine Bauza games against each other – the sublime travel experience of Tokaido and the panda-feeding frenzy of Takenoko. Both games are brilliantly executed, beautiful to look at, and a perfect fit for anyone interested in this theme – so which one comes out on top? Listen and find out what game we think is the better implementation of this style and tone of theme. It’s a close one.
