Episode 4: Warmachine: High Command

This week promises to be an interesting one with a pair of games that earned our as of yet unused lowest rating on the scale. Find out which games hit the bottom of the bottom rungs and just how quickly we want to burn them.

We’re also talking about the new deck builder from Privatereer Press – Warmachine: High Command and a classic that we’ve been meaning to get to the table for some time. Join Anthony, Chris, Dan and Kim for episode four.

At the Table

We get four games to the table this week and the quality range is a little divergent. On one end we have the classic Americlash game and one of the most replayable games ever made – Cosmic Encounter. On the other side…Those Pesky Garden Gnomes.

We’ll also be checking out Hey, That’s My Fish!, a game that’s perfect for children but also their eager to play games parents as well as the newest (and for some reason coaster-laden) card game from Z-Man Games, Parade.

Gateway Games for Non-Boardgamers

We discuss the issue of gateway games and how dangerous it can be to attempt to get someone into the hobby with a game that is too heavy or dull for their tastes. These games capture the feel of the hobby but also mix in some good old fashioned thematic fun to keep people keen on the idea of gaming.

Feature Review – Warmachine: High Command

One of the hottest properties at this year’s Gencon was Warmachine: High Command, a brand new deck builder based on the popular two player miniatures game from Privateer Press. We’ve been eager to try this one out for some time, so join us and learn whether it was worth the wait or if there are issues with the implementation of the theme. The verdict on this one is a bit mixed, so listen to hear who liked it, who didn’t and who is still on the fence.
