Episode 41 – Top Ten Board Games that Could Be RPGs

There is more crossover seemingly every week among board games, tabletop RPGs, and video games. This week we’re looking at 10 board games that could not only be made into RPGs, but that would make GREAT RPGs. Along with our feature, we’ll be discussing Fresco, Shadows over Camelot and its expansion, and classic game, Race Track.

At the Table

At the table this week, we have a collection of very interesting games, including a classic that we’re surprised never made it to our table earlier. Daniel snags a HUGE deal on Fresco from his hometown hobby shop and brings it to the table for a play. Anthony, Chris and Daniel share their thoughts (and it got a little contentious). Next up, Chris talks about Merlin’s Company, the expansion for Shadows Over Camelot, along with the core concepts of this classic co-op game and how it holds up today against so many other great co-ops. Finally, Drew brings out another classic with Race Track, making the rest of us wish we had even more gaming time.

Top Ten Board Games That Could Be RPGs

If the world was a fair and just place, all of our board games could be played in any format – video game, RPG, novelization. But most good games live a single life (one we greatly appreciate). This week we look at what would happen if 10 such games were turned into RPGs. How would they work, what would they play like, and what changes would be needed to keep them running smoothly without losing the feel of the original? Find out in this week’s Top 10.

Final Round: Exploration Games

Finally, Drew asks us to think about exploration games in honor of Columbus Day. We each pick one of our favorite exploration style games for a quick discussion in our final round.
