Episode 24 – Quantum

This week we get a good number of solid games to the table and start talking about one of the most controversial topics in the board gaming hobby – Kickstarter. Anthony and Chris are joined by Rob and Daniel for a feature review of Rob’s new favorite, Quantum, along with a Daniel fave, DC Deck Building Game, the Heroes Unite expansion, and group play throughs of Sentinels of the Multiverse and Civilization the Board Game. Listen and learn whether you should buy, play, dodge, or burn our featured games this week.

When to Back a Kickstarter Game

In recent weeks, we’ve talked at quite some length about when it makes the most sense to back a Kickstarter game – usually in specific situations. This week we talk about some of the most important things to look for in the process of backing a game on Kickstarter and what pitfalls look like.

At the Table

We get three big games to the table this week including DC Deck Building Game’s first big box alternative expansion, Heroes Unite. We also play through of one of the all time great superhero games, Sentinels of the Multiverse and its Vengeance expansion, and finally all four of us get together for a big epic play through of Sid Meier’s Civilization, the civilization building game from Fantasy Flight Games. Find out which of these games deserves your time and which to dodge.

Feature Review

Finally this week we take a close look at Quantum, the new game from FunForge, backed last year on Kickstarter. This game, despite some questionable component issues, is a brilliant implementation of a dice placement mechanic in space. Find out what the guys think after a few play throughs and whether it’s worth tracking down a first edition copy or waiting for the revised second edition.
