Episode 31 – Mice and Mystics

This is a game we’ve been eager to review for MONTHS and now it’s finally hit the table often enough to make it to the feature spot. This week, Anthony, Chris, Daniel and Drew get together and play Mice and Mystics – the epic game of cheese hunting, rat fighting, mouse-led heroics from Plaid Hat Games. Along with our epic, narrated adventure, we discuss Colosseum, Rise of Augustus, and Game of Thrones: Westeros Intrigue. Listen to learn what we think of each of these games.

At the Table

This week’s games all follow a similar theme as the guys fight to overcome tight competition in a world much rougher than our own. First up is Rise of Augustus, the Spiel des Jahres finalist from last year and a brilliant, strategic bingo-style game that the guys got to the table a handful of times already.

Next is Game of Thrones: Westeros Intrigue – a blatant cash grab from Fantasy Flight – but is the game any good? Find out in our review. Finally, we get classic Days of Wonder game, Colosseum, to the table. The game’s beautiful components and set collection mechanics work in a number of ways you’d never expect.

Feature Review: Mice and Mystics

Mice and Mystics is one of the most successful of Plaid Hat’s many very successful games and for good reason. It’s a genre crossing, mega-sized dungeon crawl that is just as fun for gamer groups as for young families. Listen to discover what the guys think of their first few plays of this epic adventure and if you should pick it up yourself or track it down the next time you’re in a game store.
