With hundreds of board gaming blogs currently active, why shouldn’t we let defunct blogs Rest In Peace?
Well, think about what George Santayana said: “Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.” We’ve all made plenty of mistakes at the gaming table, and we can use all the help we can get to avoid those same mistakes.
Even voices from the Great Beyond – the Limbo that is the final resting place of dead blogs – can still touch our lives and enrich our strategies.
This is the first in a series where I occasionally stroll through the overgrown cemetery of defunct blogs and read the tombstones. There are some pretty interesting things written there…
Next Level Card Games (b.2011 – d.2013) narrowed its focus in accord with its name, analyzing many of the popular card-based games. But for the most part they excluded Collectible Card Games (CCGs).
Tichu, Loot, Day of the Dead, Gosu, Haggis and Penny Arcade all received breakdowns at one point in Next Level’s brief history. They even tackled Fluxx 4.0 to find a “strategy” that would win a game that scoffs at strategy.
Especially valuable are discussions about Ascension as a solo game, and Dominion as a tournament game. But, to me, the best posts of all break down the monuments and leaders of 7 Wonders.
Click on Strategy Content / 7 Wonders, and stroll through the pages. Wallow around the in-depth posts and find a two-part Leaders Analysis, as well as thorough strategies to use with seven of the Wonders.
