Episode 40 – Thunder Alley

This week the guys review one of the most contentious games of the podcast’s history (since Cyclades) in Thunder Alley. After weeks of searching, Anthony finally tracks down a copy and gets it to the table, but the results are mixed. Who loved it, who hated it, and who ended up in the middle. Listen and find out who you agree with and if this game is worth giving a shot during your next gaming night. We’re also talking about Glory to Rome, the Summoner Wars Master Set and Castle Panic, plus a bunch of interesting stories from around the world of hobby gaming.

At the Table

At the table this week, the crew gets three hotly discussed games out. The first of these is Glory to Rome, a game that we’ve been hunting eagerly for months. After an initial play, what does the team think and is it worth the constant, nearly unbridled love it receives currently? Also, Daniel gets his first shot at the Summoner Wars Master Set, and gives a somewhat surprising review. Finally, we all play Castle Panic and try to figure out why it was so easy (seriously, usually we die right?).

Feature Review: Thunder Alley

For weeks Anthony has been stopping by his local game store looking for copies of Thunder Alley. GMT finally relented and did a new printing so he has a copy and sat his gaming group down for a play through. After a run through of this strategic stock car racing game, what does everyone think? Does it live up to the hype? Is it too fiddly? Do the GMT components bother anyone in particular? There are answers to all of these questions, along with some slightly heated discussion about the merits of the game in this week’s feature review.
